School Board Responsibilities
What is the purpose of the School Board?
The School Board operates within the guidelines of a constitution established under archdiocesan standards. It meets four or five times a year to work with the pastor and principal in establishing goals for the school and providing counsel as to the means of reaching those goals.
Typically, the School Board does not involve itself in routine, day-to-day matters relating to school operation or administration, but focuses primarily on broad, long-range issues relating to the ongoing health and success of the school.
How are School Board members chosen?
In accordance with its constitution, the School Board consists of nine members. The pastor, by virtue of his role as the pastoral and spiritual leaders of the parish, is an ex-officio members. The principal, as the chief administrative officer of the School, is also an ex-officio member. The Sisters of Our Lady of the Garden appoint one member of their community to serve on the board. The Executive Board of the Home-School Association, after consulation with its membership, appoints three parents of current students. To the extent possible and/or practicable, one parent comes from each of three ranges of grades: K through 3rd, 4th through 6th, and 7th through 8th. The pastor appoints three representitives from the parish or the local community. Finally, the Financial Council of the parish appoints one member to act as a liasison between the Council and the Board.
